Door wide open for Hincapie

Hamilton is a tool. Jan is a weenis. And they're both out of the Tour! Even Basso is out! In case you need a reminder - that's 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in last year's Tour. All bets are off... I think Hincapie needs to focus up and push until his brain hurts on the time trials and jump high in the mountains. Let's keep and American on the Podium. Levi could make a good run at it, too.

Lance Lets Loose on RAGBRAI

Think you'll be able to notice where he's at on the route? Hmmm... think huge cluster of bikes twisting over themselves to get the chance to say they rode with Lance. (Yeah... I'll probably try, too) Who's with me Flashback?

MO River Pedestrian Bridge

Thanks, Tim - for passing this info along.

There is a group raising money from private donations to close the gap between expected costs and the money on hand now. I guess Kiewit Foundation just put up $1 million. If anyone is interested in making a donation, the group mentioned in the article I read is:

Back to the River, Inc., P.O. Box 3802, Omaha, NE 68103-0802.

This is no endorsement of this particular group or its credentials, more of an endorsement of the idea of the bridge, and perhaps of the need to support it. The article says this group is a nonprofit organization. There may also be other groups besides this one raising money for the cause.

I think the Bridge will be great -- a link between the fine Iowa Trails and the Omaha trail network, foot and bike access to and from the Old Market, the casinos, the Qwest Center, and the Riverfront. Groups have been pushing for a foot bridge ever since the Aksarben Bridge was torn down in the 60s. But to no avail until now -- we hope.

The commute of the year!

So you need to get from Davis Ca. To Boston? Gas is almost $3.00 per gallon. And you have 28 days to get there. So what do you do? Ride your bike of course! Oh one more thing your bike is a fixed gear, and your doing this for a charity fund raiser.
A group of riders left Davis Ca. Today to start there ride, 3,340 miles. The longest day is 185 miles and the shortest is 84. You can follow the ride on the Big Fix blog. And learn more about Histiocytosis here.

TACO RIDE

Haven't been out this year yet... tonight's the inaugural ride for me. I'll try to hook up with T~n~T down in Silver City to eat, and ride back to Minny for the festivities. I think Patti is headin' out, too. This also gives me a chance to dust off the '93 Trek 970. Hasn't been rode much lately as per the commuting thing, but damn, I love that bike. Sold my very first car and bought the bike.

What the hell is on the top of this taco, anyway?

Swanson Trail Maintenance

Swanson Trail Maintenance (Saturday 7:30AM)

Swanson’s big event is less than two weeks away, and it’s time we get together to whack a few weeds, replace or repair any logs, and do anything else that needs work. Mr. Swanson ( Martin Bixby ) is out of town. Saturday 7:30 A.M. would be a good starting time before it warms up. Tools: weed-eaters, pruners, and anything else you can think of.

Papa's Ride

Calling all Papas...

UPDATE - "It's on." 9:00 a.m.
There you have it... the time to ride is 9am. We meet in the small parking lot on the East side of standing bear lake right off of 144th St. Heading North on 144th from Maple - go past Fort St. and the cemetary. Take a right into the park entrance. We'll be there - Uncle Guzzler, Pete, Tom, hope TnT can make it, anyone else from Flashback...
Will Grump make the ride? I think so. Duct Tape makes great baby sitters.

Sunday, June 18th is probably time best spent with the family... so let's put together a ride on Saturday the 17th. I know a nice 30 - 35 - or 40 mile road route (round trip) out to Waterloo from Standing Bear lake. Fat tires work fine on the ride, too... you don't need the ultra-road-geek ride to join in. We normally call it the breakfast ride, but that's pretty common anymore, and since this will be on a Saturday morning let's call it the Bro-tisserie ride. Put the word out, get sitters, lay the guilt on thick with the Mrs. and bring some scratch for greasy food and barley sodas at the Depot.
I'll see if the O'Grady Train wants in on the action and get BW Todd and Kirk in on the plan. Use the envelope link below this post to send an email to whoever. We'll see what time works best for all, and update this site with the time to meet at Standing Bear next week. This isn't reserved for Dads, and even the Mama's can come on out for the spin.
